Maghtab Report Questioned

Reports appearing in the media giving the impression that Maghtab does not present any danger to health should be questioned by the public, Friends of the Earth (Malta) said today.

Friends of the Earth (Malta) has not read the document prepared by consultants Scott Wilson on the profile of the Maghtab dump and is quite sure that the area around Maghtab including the sea is polluted and presents a danger to health. The assortment of toxic chemicals that have been dumped at Maghtab must present a serious threat to the health of all those living in the vicinity.

FoE Malta calls on the authorities to make the entire document that Scott Wilson has produced so that civil society and the public at large will be able to judge for themselves what sort of tests have been conducted to date as well as the findings of the consultants.

Even the run off on rainy days - as these photos taken today demonstrate - must be having deliterious impacts on the sea and land surrounding Maghtab, FoE said.
