FoE congratulates Prime Minister, calls for more communication from authorities on environmental matters

Friends of the Earth Malta welcomes the government’s decision to reverse its proposal for landfills near the Neolithic temples of Mnajdra and Hagar Qim.

Along with much of the rest of civil society, Malta Labour Party, Alternattiva Demokratika and one Nationalist MP, Friends of the Earth had pointed out that better alternatives existed to the proposal.

Friends of the Earth Malta notes that Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi and his Cabinet have shown themselves to be sensitive to public opinion and prepared to listen. We encourage the government to re-start the process of communication with environment NGOs which, we feel, has broken down. Malta can then start to work in earnest towards environmental targets so as to improve product Malta.
