Until a few years ago, the word “environment” was generally associated by most general public, with litter in the streets, pavements, street furniture, the pruning of roadside trees and the issue of hunting.

Thankfully, this has recently changed and all the political parties are now coming up with their proposals and ideas of how to mend our country’s environmental problems, which have accumulated over the decades. As people are becoming more aware of the fact that, a better environment results in a better quality of life, environmental issues have now become national issues and an important part of political manifestos.>>

Friends of the Earth Malta has battled one golf course proposal after another in recent years, most of them planned for areas of agricultural importance or scenic beauty.

Developers have been known to threaten farmers in order to persuade them to sell off their agricultural land, and
the government has relied on decisions made by planning bodies with heavy input from the tourism industry and none by environmentalists.>>
